If you are overwhelmed by everything that needs to be done before the Christmas holiday--buying and wrapping gifts, putting up a tree, decorating, baking--then you will want to skip this post. You don't need to add another thing to your "to do" list. On the other hand, if you are in need of a simple, satisfying task, read on.
Over the years, polishing my silver has become as much a part of my holiday preparation as setting up the Christmas tree. Like ironing, polishing silver is one of those tasks that requires no attention but yields instant gratification. I actually polish my silver for Thanksgiving, but like to do some touch-up just before December 25.
I don't have a special set of flatware for the holidays; I use the same mismatched vintage silver forks, knives, and spoons all year round. But polishing makes even my everyday silver look new, and adds a sparkle and gleam to my holiday table.
How about you?
Bon week-end!

There's nothing more gratifying than seeing silver sparkling, especially as it reflects the twinkling lights of Christmas, leaving the house awash with shimmering beauty. This is my favourite time of year for polishing silver! I did a post last week on an eco-friendly version of polishing. It makes the task much more enjoyable!

Andrea, so good to hear from you! A few weeks ago I used eco-friendly baking soda and vinegar to polish my vintage cast brass door knocker-couldn't believe the results. Now I'm going to try your method for polishing silver.
ReplyDeleteMerci mon ami!
While I love the results, I hate the polish I use. I'm going to check out Andrea's eco friendly way. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteI love polishing metal. Something satisfying about that gleam. Which explains why we own so much silver and brass. I think it's a good thing to do to prepare for guests.
ReplyDeleteI don't have official or real silver, mostly because I knew I wouldn't use since I wouldn't want to polish it.
ReplyDeleteThis is my Christmas ritual, too. The funny thing is I had just finished polishing everything just before I logged on and saw your post.
