1 Sweater, 5 Ways: Wednesday

If you've been following the news you know that the DC area got socked with more snow overnight, and it's still snowing this morning. In fact, it's a blizzard; the wind is fierce with lots of blowing and drifting snow. A good day to stay inside and do some planning for school, in case we ever get to go back!

I won't be going outside today, so there's no need to bundle up. I'm wearing a black Old Navy sleeveless tee over a pair of comfy black wide-leg cropped pants. These are my go-to pants in the spring and summer months, but they're also great for just hanging out.

Mercredi

I'm also wearing the most comfortable shoes in my closet. I bought these black Repetto ballet flats 11 years ago on a trip to Paris with my husband and my son. I had an afternoon on my own to shop, and my first stop was 22 Rue de Paix, Boutique Repetto. For years, I wore these shoes almost everyday; I had them resoled several times. As you can imagine, they're pretty worn, but I still love them and wear them at home all the time.

Today I put on my son's watch--a little big for my wrist, but I actually like the look. I think I'll put one of these on my wish list.

Oh, I almost forgot, on top of it all I wore my grey sweater!

  1. Those slacks are great; they look comfortable and have just the right look. Yay, another Repetto geek! It makes me so happy to hear how much mileage you've gotten out of your Repettos. Wow, 11 years. I've gotten three pairs this past year, and though they were pretty spendy, I am madly in love with all of them. They're so comfortable -- so comfortable, in fact, that when I bought my first pair last summer, I put them on immediately and then walked three miles in San Francisco. How many pairs of new shoes can you do that with?

I like the look of a men's watch, too.

  2. Marsi, if you wear those shoes often, they're worth the investment--really, you will have them forever. BTW, where did you buy your Repettos? After 11 years, I'm thinking maybe I want a new pair . . .

  3. I got two pairs in SF at Gimme Shoes. For some reason, I can't paste their Repetto sale link in this comment window, but their website is gimmeshoes.com. Two of the pairs I got are now on MAD sale.

The other pair, my husband ordered from Fred Segal in L.A. for my birthday. I didn't see any Repettos on the Fred Segal website just now though.

Repettos and low-top Converses are the only shoes I wear, so the Repettos are definitely going to pay for themselves.

  4. I love when you wear those pants, they look nice but comfy. Like the my elastic waist jersey pants. Large watches on women is very "in" right now. A bright or funky color would be cool with your neutral tons. I'm ignoring the work comment...

  5. So, I realized that I am doing the same experiment as you are...same outfit for the whole blizzard. Ok, so I change each time I go to the gym, but when I return, I keep going back to the same Juicy loungeware outfit.(I must add that I've done about 10 loads of laundry over the past week, and yes, it's only me here...so it's not so gross, right??)
BTW...love the big watch look on a ladies wrist!

  6. Leigh, a bright color you say? Wait til you see the big BOLD vintage bracelet I bought for $9 on Etsy--you'll love it.

  7. P.S. Remember that Repettos run pretty small!

  8. Marsi! Where has gimmeshoes.com been all my life? I am not a shoe person, but wow, I could easily become one.

  9. I know! It's so great. I wasn't a shoe person until the last couple of years, but I sure am one now. So many of my clothes are classic and basic, and if I wear classic and basic shoes, I look like an old bore. So classically designed shoes with something a little kooky going on (like the "oil slick" Repettos at Gimme Shoes -- which I bought, incidentally, and am crazy about) give my wardrobe some interest. I also have those tortoiseshell/calico Repettos, which are also on sale, and they go so well with black. And the price? Wah-hoo! It's funny how shoes will get you noticed (and complimented). I never really understood their power before.

Do you think you'll buy a pair of Repettos while they're on sale?

  10. Marsi, I hate to say this, but I think the sale is over. When I went to the site earlier today, there were lots of shoes on sale; now, none. So sad. I am in love with some of Fiorentini+Baker boots . . .

  11. No, they're still there. I had to hunt around for the sale shoes a bit, but they're there. They took ADDITIONAL MARKDOWNS today; I got an email from them a few hours ago.

  12. That is a real testament to the quality of those shoes. When you can get them resoled and they still hold up. That's great. I love this look with flats.

  13. Wow, great look! Another Repetto convert....hooray! There is a part of me that rejoices when I hear someone say that they have resoled a pair of shoes multiple times. Great going!
When my dad passed away a few months back, I inherited the watch my mother bought him (anniversary gift) 20+ years ago. I wear it often as a "personality piece". It is more of a tank watch, which compliments my short frame. I think If I was a little taller I could pull off stealing hubbys heavier stainless watch. I love that your son's is black, as it really looks great with the outfit you chose. I think your whole look is very chic.
